The biochemistry lab is equipped with devices for analysis of cellular processes. Here is a partial listing of the equipment available in this lab:

1. Perkin Elmer Lambda 2 Spectrophotometer

Perkin Elmer Lambda 2 Spectrophotometer
  • Used to measure concentrations of various biological materials
  • Measure absorbance or percent transmittance of concentration-dependent dyes
  • Continuous visible wavelength range of 200-1100 nm; UV/Visible relies on high-energy tungsten-halogen lamp to penetrate samples
  • Data reporting to printer/computer

2. Bio Tek Microplate Reader

Bio Tek Microplate Reader
  • Model EL 310 Autoreader - 96 well microplates
  • Measures concentrations of various biological materials
  • Wavelength range of 380-750 nm using narrow band interference filters

3. Fisher Micro-Centrifuge

Fisher Micro-Centrifuge
  • Model 235B
  • Used to separate particulate or macromolecular material from solution
